Mike:
Oh, I gotta go with that year’s Silly Symphonies, Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes! Well, that was another expedient little Lightning Round… and let’s continue our
movie, TV and DVD topic with Ellie’s
review of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law!
Ellie:
Arigato! Jennifer Walters, the lawyer, Avenger and Dr. Banner’s cousin known as She-Hulk, is one of my favoritest Marvel super-heroes! Whether she is in the court room, in the galactic battle or on the date, she is a wonderfully strong, fun character with the many thrilling, whimsical stories, so I was quite eager for this live-action nine episode TV mini-series, which is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe shown on the Disney + channel!
I think that Tatiana Maslany is absolutely perfect as Jennifer / She-Hulk, and I especially like her comedic prowess at breaking the 4th wall when she chats with the audience! The TV series certainly captures the spirit of the comic books! The rest of the great cast includes Mark Ruffalo Hulk Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky / The Abomination

… Renee Elise Goldsberry as Jennifer’s boss Mallory Book, Ginger Gonzaga as Jennifer’s friend Nikki Ramos and Jameela Jamil as She’Hulk’s enemy Titania, and Patty Guggenheim as Wong’s friend Madisynn! Other allies and enemies (many from the comics) include Leap Frog, Man-Bull, El Aguila, Porcupine, Saracen, The Wrecking Crew, and The Hulk’s son Skaar!
The TV series has the terrific balance of action, comedy, and the slice-of-life moments, with the great plots, FX, costumes, sets, locations, music, and so forth! I will give it the grade of th A as in Abomination, and I hope that there will be another season of it, and that we’ll see more of her in the rest of the MCU! Speaking of which, now here’s Nyo-sensei to discuss
Werewolf by Night!
Nyoka:
Hai! I concur about She-Hulk and the other MCU movies & TV series, so I was excited about this (nearly) one hour TV special, which purrtains to the things that go bump in the night, and the people who hunt them! It wonderfully stars Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone the monster hunter and Gael Garcia as Jack Russell the werewolf who fight the other hunters who do not want Elsa to inherit her late father’s estate.

I have an action figure of Elsa, who was a meowmber of A-Force and The Defenders! This TV special was filmed in Black &  White as the clever ode to the Universal Studio’s horror movies, and it was directed by Michael Giacchino, who is purrhaps best known for his many movie, TV and video game scores! The spooky mansion is the purrfect location, and the flaming tuba was the nice touch to herald the hunt!
One scene reminded me of the comic book Giant-Size Creatures #1 (which was Tigra’s first appurrance), in which the villains made the fatal mistake of putting Jack in the Cage! The mewsic, sounds, stunts, sets, costumes, FX and so forth were terrific! The Man-Thing formerly known as Ted Sallis also appurrs in it, so I was quite pleased, and I hope to see more of Elsa, Jack and Ted! Nyow here is Tara-chan to discuss
Monster High -The Movie!
Tara-chan:
Hai, It stars another famous werewolf, nya! I have been the fan of the Monster High toys and animated tales since they were launched in 2010, which was quite the eventful year, because that was the same year that the Friendship is Magic era of My Little Pony began, nya!
For me the Monster High franchise had reached it’s wonderful zenith by 2016, and – and it had spin-off the Ever After High and – and the Enchantimals lines, but the Monster High line seemed less successful when they rebooted the mythology and – and re-designed the dolls, nya.
However, last month the franchise was rebooted and redesigned yet again, with the purremier of the live – action movie and – and the new animated TV series in time for Halloween, nya! I have the mixed feelings about the movie, which is the live-action mewsical!
On one paw, I did not care for some of the unnecessary changes to the characters, purrticularly Clawdeen’s accent and lack of siblings, nya. My other least favorite aspect of the movie is the plot’s trope of the magickal school where the severely anti-human policy that unfairly threatens characters who are human or half-human, nya.
On the other hand, that plot does shine the light upon bigotry, and I am pleased that Monster High continues to inclusively have the diverse characters, nya! The movie has the high purrduction values, with the excellent sets, locations, FX, costumes, hair, make-up, FX, sound, cinematography, choreography and the purrformances, nya!
The stars of the movie are Milas Harris as Clawdeen Wolf, Natay Damasen as Draculaura, and Ceci Balagot as Frankie Stein, nya! The main three’s friendship reminds me the bit of Harry Potter’s Harry, Hermione and – and Ron, as they investigate the mystery, explore the secret locations, to remedy the vengeful plot that jeopurrdizes the students, nya!
I liked how Clawdeen’s ears would twitch, but I think that Frankie quite stole the show, nya! It makes the purrfect since that Frankie is the non-binary gender character, given their Frankensteined body parts from the different people, nya! Draculaura was quite cute and it was neat to see her relationship with her dad Dracula, nya!
It was great to see the many familiar faces, such as Cleo, Lagoona, Abbey, Deuce, Hyde, and – and Headmistress Bloodgood, but I wish that Toralei, Meowna and – and Purrephone were there, nya. I will give the movie the C+ grade, I hope there will be sequels, nya! I am done, so nyow here is Myayr to discuss the horror movie
Halloween Ends, nya!
Mary Nyan:
Hai! The thirteen movies of the Halloween franchise, have definitely had the ups and downs, with the few reboots since John Carpenter’s legendary Halloween movie in 1978. The sequel Halloween II was made in 1981. The 1982 movie Halloween III has nothing to do with the rest of the series. Halloweens II – V & The Curse of Michael Myers are one timeline of sequels to the first movie.
Halloween H2O & Resurrection are a different timeline of sequels to the first two Halloween movies. Then Rob Zombie directed the 2001 remake and its sequel. Then David Gordon Green’s 2018  Halloween ignores all but the 1978 movie, has the sequel Halloween Kills and this final movie, Halloween Ends. For our review of Halloween Kills, please see the November 2021 Mew!

So, I loved the first Halloween, did not care for Halloween II, and I thought that Halloween III: Season of the Witch was OK. For the most part, I have not been enamored by the sequels or reboots, although I thought that Green’s purrior two Halloweens were OK, so I was quite curious to see this latest movie, which is supposedly concludes the entire series… at least for nyow!

In Halloween Ends, Michael Myers the masked mass-murderer / serial killer known as “The Shape” stalks the town of Haddonfield yet again, but in a more limited role, as most of the terror is courtesy of his sort of purrotege Corey, a vengeful bullied outcast purrtrayed by Rohan Campbell, and although their purrformances are fine, this aspect of the plot disappointed me.
I was rather underwhelmed by Halloween Ends, which I will give the grade of the C+. it has some well-done bloody gory FX, and the rather intense climactic brawl, but I should not reveal more of the plot. The best parts of the movie are the purrformances by Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, and Andi Matichakas her grand-daughter Allyson. I am done, and nyow here is Nya-sensei to discuss

Black Adam!
Nyanko:
DC Comics’s Black Adam has been around since 1945, purrimarily as the arch – enemy of the Shazam Captain Marvel, but since the late 1990s. he underwent the substantial character developments and became more of the anti-hero type! Purrior to this live-action movie, he appurred in numerous animated tales and video games, including this year’s fun League of Super Pets movie!
Nyow, before I share my opinion of this movie, I will explain my purrspective. In general, I love supurr hero and action movies, OVAs and TV series, be they animated or live-action, although I have had the very mixed feelings about the DC Extended Universe series, which tends to be too dark visually and in spirit.
In spite of the good casts, I am not a fan of Man of Steel Batman vs Superman, Suicide Squad (2016, or Justice League; however, I thought that Wonder Woman was okay, in spite of its cinematic style that reminded me too much of Zack Snyder, who is among my least favorite directors. By the way, I have not seen Zack Snyder’s Justice League, nor do I want to.
I was more pleased with Aquaman, Shazam!, Birds of Prey, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Suicide Squad (2021), although I am not fond of the “Snyderverse” series compuyrred to the “Timmverse” (such as Batman: The Animated Series, Superman: The Animated Series, Justice League Unlimited, Static Shock. Batman Beyond) or the “Arrowverse” (Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Stargirl, Legends of Tomorrow, etc).
Nevertheless, my anticipations for Black Adam were somewhat optimistic, especially given that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was cast to star as Black Adam, Aldois Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, Viola Davis returning as Amanda Waller, and Jennifer Holland returning as Emilia Harcourt!
Unfortunately, several of the characters are given too little to do, especially Cyclone and Atom Smasher. The film also seemed too short and rushed, with too many quick edit / cuts, too much introductory exposiition, and the writing which seemed somewhat… well, souless, with the characters that were not well-developed enough to care enough about, be they hero, villain or civilian.

Worse was the very ‘Snydery’ cinematic style with the under-saturated colors, and regrettably over-used techniques such as the speed – ramping and slo-mo that call way too much distracting attention to themselves, and thus ruin any suspension of disbelief or hopes for an immeresive, captivating experience. Even the film’s score was generally uninspiring for me.

The scenes of Carter Hall / Hawkman fighting Black Adam reminded me too much of Bruce Wayne / Batman vs Superman, but I think that the great actors are the best things about the film. The movie does have high purrduction values, with lovely costumes, great stunts and lavish visual FX, even if many are very obvious CG.
The movie was extremely purrdictable too, however, I will say that the post-credits scene was not quite what I expected! So, in summation. I will give Black Adam the slightly below-average grade of the C-. Okay I am done, and nyow here is Mike to tell us about the
Star Trek: Picard season 2 DVD!
Mike:
Thank you, Nyo-sensei There’s been a lot of Trek on TV in recent years, what with Star Trek Discovery, Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Picard! Set in the year 2401, which is 25 years after the events of the movie Star Trek: Nemesis and shortly after the first season of Picard, the 2nd season’s great cast included:
Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard, Jeri Ryan as Seven of Nine, John de Lancie as Q, Whoopie Goldberg as Guinan, Brent Spiner as Adam Soong, Isa Briones as Koore Soong,
Alison Pill as Agnes Jurati, Michelle Hurd as Raffi Misiker, Evan Evagora as Elnor, Santiago Cabrera as Chris Rios, Orla Brady as Laris and Tallin

Annie Wersching as the Borg Queen, Sol Rodriguez as Dr. Teressa Ramirez, Penelope Mitchell as Renee Picard, Ito Aghayere as young Guinan, Dylan Von Halle as young Jean-Luc, Madeline Wise as Jean-Luc’s mom Yvette, and James Callis as Jen-Luc’s dad; cameos by Wll Wheaton as Wesley Crusher, and Kirk Thatcher as the punk on the bus!

For my review of season 2, please see our June 2022 Mew, but this time I just want to discuss the Region One NTSC DVD set, which is in the plastic case within the cardboard sleeve. Presented in the widescreen format with English 5.1 Dolby digital audio and optional English SDH subtitles, the 10 episodes total about 473 minutes, plus over 90 minutes of special features.

Disc one’s special features include the 18.5 min. featurette on the design and sets of the Sagan class starship USS Stargazer NCC-82893, with comments by Dave Blass, Terry Matalas, Doug Drexler, Thomas Marrone, John Eaves, Jaren Zimmerman, Michael Okuda, Chris Keiler, Todd Marks, Bill Slonecker and Patrick Stewart.

The 5.5 min. featurette on Chateau Picard includes comments by Dave Blass, Neville Page, Jeffrey Lombardy and Vincent Van Dyke. Also on disc one are two deleted / extended scenes totally about 2.75 min. from episode 3 “Assimilation”. Disc two’s only special features are three deleted / extended scenes totaling about 3.25 min. from episode 5 “Fly Me to The Moon”, and two deleted / extended scenes totalling just over 1 min. from episode 7 “Monsters”.

Disc three has the 12 min. featurette “The Trial is Over” about the relationship of Picard and Q, which includes comments by Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Patrick Stewart and John De Lancie. The 11 min. “Rebuilding the Borg Queen” featurette  includes comments by Neville page, Jason Zillerman, James Mackinnan and Annie Wersching.
Propmaster Jeff Lombardy stars in the 12 min featurette of the show’s props. The nearly 25 min. “Picard Passages” featurette includes comments by Michelle Hurd, Brady, Stewart, Cabrera, Ryan, Pill, Evagora, Wersching and Goldsman. At nearly 4 min.m the amusing gag reel includes flubbed lines, dropped items, unscripted giggling and unwanted noises.
There are also two deleted / extended scenes totalling slightly over 2 min. from episode 10 “Farewell”,so, that’s whatcha get with the DVD! I was quite pleased with  the quality of the audio, video, the packaging, and how entertaining and informative the special features are! Next I’m looking forward to DVD releases of Star Trek: Discovery Season four and hopefully Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season one! Um, okay I’m done, and now here’s Ilyana-sensei, who’ll start our
toys and collectibles portion of The Mew, with her review of the
Hallmark Keepsake 2022 Star Trek – Strange New Worlds U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 ornament!

Ilyana:
Hai! I greatly enjoyed the first season of Strange New Worlds, which is the spin-off of the Star Trek: Discovery TV series! It purrtains to the adventures of the United Federation Starship U.S.S. Enterprise under the command of Captain Christopher Pike, about 7 years purrior to Captain James T. Kirk’s command of the ship.

The design and size of the ship differs the bit from the way it appurred in Star Trek’s two pilot shows and the original 1966 TV series, but it is quite lovely, seeming to have some aspects akin to the Phase II (aborted late 70’s TV series) Enterprise and the refitted Enterprise from (Mike’s favorite movie) Star Trek – Motion Picture.

The details are quite nice, from the hull’s deflector shield grids to the lettering and the stripes! I am not sure of the scale of this ornament, but it is 6.75” long, and it lights up! The button is the small dome atop the hanger bay. It is $32.99 at the Hallmark store, and the batteries are included in the 7.75” x 2.375” x 3.875” cardboard box.
The philips head screwdriver is needed (but not included) to open the battery compurrtment, which is on the ventral side of the secondary hull. For hanging the ornament, the widdle metal eyelet is screwed into the top of the ship’s impulse engine, but you will need the hanger hook, string or wire, which are not included. I am done, and nyow here is Meryl to discuss the-
Star Wars Micro Galaxy Squadron Millennium Falcon!
Meryl:
Arigato! This great toy is part of Jazwares’ series of Star Wars vehicles of various scales including the X-Wing, Y-Wing, TIE fighter, Advanced TIE, Outland TIE, Jedi Starfighter,  Slave 1, Razor Crest, Banshee, Scout Walker andTroop Transport… and all of them are awesome looking!

This’un is a 10” long replica of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars Epurrsode IV and includes widdle posable figures of Han Solo, Chewbacca, Purrincess Leia and Ben Kenobi! Packaged within the 12” x 9” x 5.5” box, the sculpt and paint of the toy are quite handsome, and it has movable parts, interior sections, lights and sound!

The suggested retail purrice is about $45, which is about thrice the price of Hasbro’s 2015 Star Wars – The Force Awakens Millennium Falcon toy, but that simpler purrior toy is 1/2 inch shorter, and had much less detail with no figures, sound, lights, and no moving parts aside from the rectangular rectenna…

…although, I should not try to compurr this’un to many other Millennium Falcon toys, because there have been so many since Kenner’s original 1978 Millennium Falcon playset! Since the Falcon is supposedly about 114 feet long, then this 10” long toy is appurroximately of the 1/138 scale.

The landing gear flip down, the cargo ramp opens, the round rectenna turns, the uppurr gun turrent rotates and the uppurr quad laser cannon pitches! To activate the lights and sound, you purress the  rear left circular exhaust vent behind the top turret, and thusly the engine power is heard as the blue light flicker on!
The light and sounds will vary depending on the yaw, pitch or roll motion! The seams of the removable panels are cleverly concealed for the interior areas of the ship, such as the cockpit and the central area, so the figures can be placed in the cockpit, the turret, or around the holo chess table!
Three AAA batteries are required for the sound and lights, but are not included, nor is the small phllips head screw needed to open the battery hatch, which hidden in the interior’s floor, as if it was the smuggling compurrtment! The painted figures are nice looking, with jointed shoulders and hips.
However, at about 1” tall (appurroximately 1/69 scale) they are about twice as tall as they should be, but that is my only quibble about this great toy! I hope that more vehicles will be released, especially the A Wing, B Wing, Y Wing, and TIE Interceptor! Nyow here is Beebee to discuss Hasbro’s
Star Wars Vintage Collection Clone Wars Aayla Secura action figure!

Beebee:
Hai! We like to collect the figures, dolls, and ornaments of the inspurrational heroines. so I was quite delighted to acquire Hasbro’s latest widdle action figure of the Jedi Knight General Aayla Secura! She is the heroic Rutian Blue Twilek from the planet Ryloth!
She was purrtrayed by Amy Allen in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, and voiced by Jennifer Hale in the 2008 Clone Wars series! This figure of her is in the style of the non canonical 2003 Clone Wars animated series which was directed by Genndy Tartakovsky!
Since the character is 5’7” tall, then this 3.875” tall (including her boot heels) figure is appurroximately of the 1/18th scale, and she is quite posable, with the articulation in the neck, shoulders, elbows, wrists, abs, hips, thighs, knees and ankles!
She is wearing the bare-midriff Brown tank top, tight pants, and the hoody cloak with the Black boots and the Brown wrap around her lovely lekku (head tails). The figure is plastic and the removable cloak is made of cloth.
She has two Light Sabers, one unlit hilt and the other with the 2” Blue blade. I am quite pleased with the design, sculpt, and paint of the figure, with the intricate details from her hazel eyes and hinny belly button to the dangling cords of her mini tabard and the tooling of the sabers!
A display stand is not included, but I found a widdle  doll stand, so that she is posed in the Ataru fighting stance upon the shelf next to the figures of her comrades Barris Offee and Luminara Unduli! Nyow  here is Jenjen to tell us about the-

Transformers Legacy Elita-1 Deluxe Class action figure!

Jeannie:

Hai. We like to collect Hasbro’s Transformers’ female characters such as Arcee, Strongarm, Elita One, Chromia, Moonracer, Firestar, Windblade, Nautica and Black Arachnia. I purrfur the comics and animation versions more than those of the live-action movies.

Elita-1 is one of the top leaders of the heroic Autobots who battle the evil Decepticons. This latest figure of her is 6” tall in the bipedal bot mode with the two blaster pistol accessories. Her Red, Pink and White paint job is quite smoothly purrcise.
For her vehicle mode, she transforms into the Cybertronian muscle car; and the 14+ step transformation purocess is clearly depicted by the instruction sheet. She is very posable, with articulation in the neck, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, thighs and knees.

The design and sculpt and paint are splendid, and although her car backpack is the bit cumbersome, she is well-balance to stand without requiring a display base (which is not included), and the transformation purrocess is rather simple.

In conclusion I am rather pleased with this figure, and I have purroudly displayed her upon the shelf wi8th the purrior figures of her. That is all for the toy talk portion of The Mew, and nyow here is Mie-sensei to start
our comic book, manga and other purrinted-media
mewsings, with her review of Defenders Beyond #3.
Mielikki:
Hai, So like, since Doctor Strange apparently perished during the quest through the multiverse, another incarnation of The Defenders team has assembled to fight against the cosmic threats! The new team consists of Loki, America Chavez, Tigra, Blue Marvel, Galactus’s mom Taaial, and the Beyonder!
Rated T+ for the older teen readers, the 3rd issue has 28 pages, consisting of the 22 page tale, which is interrupted by the 6 pages of the ads. “The White Hot Room” was written by Al Ewing, illustrated by Javier Rodriguez, lettered by Joe Caramagna, edited by Will Moss, assistantly edited by Michelle Marchese, and in-chiefly edited by C.B. Cebulski, with the  credits page art by Lee Garbett!
So like, this issue is available in the choice oftwo different beautiful covers; the main cover art by Javier; and the variant cover by Ben Caldwell. Previously, The team encountered the nearly-omnipotent entities known as The Beyonders, one of whom has joined the team, and as that was not cosmic enough, now they are not welcomed into The White Hot Room,
the home of The Phoenix force!
So like, thusly does another cosmic battle ensues, with The Beyonder blending a smoothy drink whilst Taiaa recouperates, Blue Marvel chats with a cosmic construction worker,  and Loki watches from the wings. whilst America dons the Eternity Mask and tag-teams with Tigra who manifests the Tiger God to slug it out with the Phoenix, fur shur!
Blue Marvel does get in a few good licks to keep Phoenix off-balance, but purrhaps my favorite part of this issue is that Tigra finally takes the limelight in the climactic six pages, including the totally awesome two-page spread! Also appurring in this issue is Thomas Gideon, a.k.a Glorian, but i should not further spoil the plot!
The grand action can be barely contained by the panels, which include several full-page pics, and half-page pics! I have no clue what might happen next, but I will quite eagerly await it, fur shur! So like, That is all for my review, and now here is Trini-chan to discus
Konohana Kitan vol. 11, fur shur!
Trini-chan:
Arigato! I love Sakuya Amanos manga about the fox spirit girl nakai (attendants) and their guests of all species at Kononhanatei, the ryokan (Japanese style inn) with the hot springs between the living and the afterlife! The main character Yuzu is one of the younger employees who is very cordial, sincere and enthused.
Other recurring characters include attendants Natsume, Sakura, Shino, Ren, Kiri, Satsuki, her older sister Hiiragi, Yae the geisha and Okami the wolf goddess.

Some of their fellow kitsune characters are miko (shrine purrestiess) and kenzoukou (celestial servants) at the shrines and other delightfully divine locations too!

There are amewsing, poignant and bittersweet tales of them, the town folk and the inns guests!

Originally published in Japan by Gentosha Comics, the English version was published here in the USA by Tokyo Pop. Priced at $12.99 in the USA, volume 10’s 160 B&W pages include 144 pages of manga and 16 pages of the ads.

It was translated by Katie Kimura, edited by Lena Atanassova, copy – edited by Massiel Gutirrez and in – chiefly edited by publisher Stu Levy; with quality control by Daichi Nemoto, graphic design by Sol DeLeo, retouching and lettering by Vibrraant Publishing Studio; marketing by Kate Winters, and licensing by Akira Yanaka.

There are further developments as Satsuki and Yuzu continue railroad journey aboard the celestial train C571 which is JNR class c57 4-6-2 steam locomotive! Their next stop is Kyoto, where the girls appear to be normal foxes to most humans, although they do have a reunion with a prior artist guest of the inn who recognizes them!

It is the difficult visit for Satsuki, who has unpleasant memories of her younger days in that city, but a reunion with someone she refers to as an old witch might put the tragic past into a better perspective. After that is a remembrance of Satsuki and Hiragi’s earlier days at the inn.

Then Satusuki, Yuzo and their artist friend take the short train ride to Mt. Inari to reluctantly visit Satsuki’s parents The artist can relate to how Satsuki’s parents disapproved of her career choice.  It is quite the bittersweet volume, but the reunions have the happy resolutions!
The art is as beautiful as beautiful can be, with the intricate illustrations of the endearing characters, gorgeous garments, lovely architecture and lavish landscapes, so I will continue to give Konohana Kitan the very high praise! Now here are Lizzy, Becca & Vonny to present
