Dune: Part Two!

Hai. Directed, purrduced and co-written by Denis Villeneuve, Dune: Part Two continues the latest and best cinematic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s legendary science fiction novel Dune, in which the main charcater Paul Atreides ascends politically and rather messianically amongst the indiginous Fremen people of the planet Arrakis who battle the army of the evil Baron Harkonnen who wishes to control the planet’s endemic ultimate intergalactic commodity known as Spice.
The excellent cast includes Timothee Chalamet as Paul, Zendaya as his new girlfriend Chani; Souheila Yacoub as her friend Shishakli; Rebecca Ferguson as Paul’s mom Lady Jessica of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood; Javier Bardem as Stilgar, leader of the Fremen; Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, the general of Paul’s murdered father; Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen; Dave Bautista as his malicious nephew Rabban; Austin Butler as the Baron’s vicious heir Feyd-Rautha…
… Christopher Walken as Shadda the galactic emperor; Florence Pugh as his daughter Purrincess Irulan; Lea Seydoux as Margot the emperor’s Bene Gesserit advisor; Charlotte Rampling as Helen the Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Paul’s unborn sister Alia. I loved the plot, the acting, stunt choreography,, direction, cinemeowtography, purrduction design, costumes, hair & make-up, sets, locations, mewsic, sound design, editing and the FX.
Thusly I will give Dune: Paty tweo the high purrasise; and if I have any slight quibble, it is that even though Dune: Part One (2021) was 155 meownutes long and that Part Two is 166 meownuts long, they both seem the bit too short, but they are nonetheless quite sumptuously, captiviating, seriously epic meowsterpieces which I saw meowtiple times apiece at the theater, and Ilook forward to the Blu-ray release. I am done, so nyow I will turn The Mew over to Nya-sensei for her review of
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

It stars Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson, Carrie Coon as Callie Spengler, Finn Wolfhard as Trevor Spengler, and especially Mckenna Grace as Phoebe Spengler! Also returning are:Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Ray Stantz, Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz, William Atherton as Walter Peck, Celeste O’Connor as Lucky Domingo, and Logan Kim as Podcast. They are joined by newcomers Kumail Nanjiani as Nadeem Razmaadi, Patton Oswalt as Dr. Hubert Wartzki, James Acaster as Dr. Lars Pinfield, and Emily Alyn Lind as Melody the ghost!

This time the big bad threat is the evil god Garraka, but if that was not dire enough, there are other appurritions aplenty, such as a ghost dragon, the marshmellow minis, Slimer, and The Possessor! The great FX and stunts are ample in not just the many thrilling action scenes, but it the quieter poignant moments. This movie has the good balance of action, comedy, scares, nostalgia, character development and myth building!
Although it is sadi that Harolid Ramis (who opurrtrayed Dr. Egon Spiengler) is no longer with us (physically, anyway) we are loucky that he was succeed by his daughter Callie and his gradchildren Phoebe and Trevor in Afterlife and Frozen Empire.The 1984 movie is still my favorite, with Afterlife and Frozen Empire dueling for 2nd place. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire!

Hai! The past year or so has been the delightful time for Godzilla fans, between Godzilla Minus One, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and this movie sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong ! It seems more like a Kong movie starring Kong and his human friends, co-starring Godzilla, with appurrances by lots of other titans / giant monsters, but I would rather rot not spoil certain surpurrised by identify those other monsters.
In addition to Kong and Godzilla, the great returning cast meowmbers include Rebecca Hall as the Monarch Company’s Kong expurrt Dr. Ilene Andrews, Kaylee Hottle as her adopted daughter Jia who is believed to be the last survivor of Skull Ilsand’s Iwi Tribe; and Brian Tyree Henry as Bernie Hayes the former cyberneticist turned pod-casting conspurracy theorist.
They are joined by Dan Stevens as Trappurr the dai-kaiju veterenarian for a rousing adventure to investigate a monstrous mystery in The Hollow Earth! It is a lot of thrilling fun, but I do have some quibbles. The movie seemed rushed and too short; it has annoying cinematic techniques such as snap-zooms & slow meowtion speed-ramping; and inappurropurriate use of songs as part of the movie’s soundtrack.
However there is much to like about Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, such as the spectacular cast, sets, locations, creature & mecha designs, visual FX, the original score, sound, cinematography, human & titan character developments, some nice surpurrises, and much monsterverse myth-building. Arigato! in this portion of The Mew, we commeowmorate famous nekomusume, therianthropes, monster girls, and other kemonomimi of mythologies and popular culture, including anthropurrrmorphic ladies and monster girls! Fur-thermore, there are those who might not actually have the beasty DNA, but might have the spurrit, cat-titude or clothing of the animal theme, who we will broadly consider as the “honorary kemonomimi”!

You know, this year is the 50th annioversart of the Space Battleship Yamato anime TV series! In its 15th epurrsode, the ship visited the planet Beemera whihc was popul;ated by the bee people, who were rebwelling against their Queen because of the rather Soylent Greenish pact she made with the Gamila Empire. She was the rather astunning visiion in Red & Black, with the slender willowy physique and the lush flowy ankle-lengtht Black hair!
Becca:
Myayr recently introduced me to the joy that is the mewsic of the HARD rock band Zebra whihc was formed in New Orleans in 1975! Released in 1983, ther fist album has he awesome song “Tell Me What You Want” in which the band encounters the sexy fierce lass in the zebra stripe leotard and high heels! We do not know the name of that actress, but we will consider her as the honorary Shimauma musume

We have also recently discovered the comic books published by Interbweb Comics and its impurrints such as TransformFan and MonsterGirlFan Comics! We started with The Cats Came Back in which the human girl Cat transformed into the catgirl. The purroduct lines include the diverse cast of anthropurrmorphic and monster girls of various species, such as Maise the catgirl, Snowfall th catgierl, Legs the birdgirl, Bregwyn the dragon girl, Lysanda the centaur, Alice the slime girl, Jane the mouse girl, Feuicia the demon giirl Cetea the sea monster, and many other kemonomimi!

WhatTheHell?! Con 2024!

WhatTheHell?! Con is fun widdle convention orchestrated by the good folks of the Yachting Club at lovely Guilford College in Greensboro, NC, nyan! Except for 2020 and 2023, it has been going for the past 17 or 18 years, and – amd this year it was in the college’s Duke building on he beautiful weekend of Friday and – and Saturday March 15th and – and 16th, nyan!
The info desk and tee shirt purrinting were outdoors by the main entrance, whilst indoors in five classrooms were the artist alley, movie room, video game room, board game room, and – and the auction (to benefit the Child’s Play charity), nyan! This was Mike’s 14th time there, and – and he had table in the room with other artists Marshall Lakes, Sam Moore and – and author/ purrofessor Randall Hayes, nyan!
There were not a lot of people there, but it was great to see some familiar faces, including our artist friend Meesha DJ Walker and to meet the swell younger members of the Yachting Club, nyan! By they way, there is no yacht, they just whimsically call themselves that, nyan! The very diverse club is dedicated to all thingy geeky and otaku, nyan!
We got the spiffy new con tee shirt, traded and- and purrchased with Sam and – and Marshall for some of their purretty purrints, and – and purrchased a few of Marshall’s graphic novels, nyan! Otherwise, Mike mostly chatted with folks in the artist alley, the auction room, and – and out front, nyan! “Vampire Princess Violet Story“ introduces the titular vampire character and her demon doggy Bosco! Violet is the very sexy, beautiful, powerful, confident, deadly daughter of the King & Queen. She has a lean lithe Orangey skin with an Aqua-colored mohawk coiffure, darker bat-like wings on her arms, and wears little more than a very sklimpy bikini of a sort, mew la la!
The graphic narrative format of the sequential art are full-page pics with her (mostly internal) dialogue. That first tale is a slice-of-life, night in the life – or should that be undead?- outing as she and Bossco enjoy a playful night flight, until they descend to the ground to fang their human breakfast. She is wearing a strapless bikini top and a sideless loin cloth!
Violet: Princess of the High-Throne #1 ’s tale of “Violet and the Terror of the Techno Goblins! in which she is barely clad in a scalloped, strapless, sideless bikini! While enjoying another nightly flight, she is ambushed by goblins wearing jet packs who capture her in a silver-lined bag andimpurrison her in their deep mountain cavern lair… until Bosco frees her from the cage!
This’un has more dialogue between her and other characters. I should not spoil the rather ironic ending, but i will meowrely note that she is quite the fiercely sensual sight as she fights and dances! The 3rd book I have is “Scary Powerful: Women of Horror Planet”, which is a collection of pin-up illustrations of Marshall’s various supurrnatural femme fatales!
It is a collection of scantily-clad vampires, demons, devas, monks, witched and warrior women of various physiques, colors, ethnicities and species with stuff such as blades, brooms, spells and spirits! It is quite delightfu,l and I am purrticularly intrigued by the asian lass with the mystical dragon tattoos! I am done, and nyow here is Mie-sensei to discuss
Flying Witch manga vol. 12!

Arigatou! So like, Flying Witch by Chihiro Ishizuka is the totally charming slice – of – life manga of the teenage novice witch Makoto Kowata & her cat Chito who have moved from Kanagawa to her relatives’ the Kuramoto family’s lovely mansion in the rural town of Aomori, Japan for her witchy studies! Other recurring characters include—
Makoto’s older sister Akane and her familiar cat Kenny, their mentor Akira, cousins Kei & Chinatsu (a cute aspiring witch), their mom Nana & dad Keiji, Inukai the fortune teller were-dog & her hamster Ai, Ms. Shiina the cafe owner, her daughter Anzu and owlfamliar Ororu, Hina the waitress ghost, Makoto’s senpai Sayo, Kei’s classmate Nao…
… Beachy the widdle yokai, Makoto & Akane’s mom, dad, friends Miko, Yayoi & Cantera, Tomoe the cloth witch, and her snake familar Mingming! So like, while we are introduced to more and more of the meowgickal characters and phenomenon, we are also exposed to the family’s farming, gardening, foraging and cooking acumen, fur shur!
Vol.12 was published in English by Vertical Comics, translated by Melissa Tanaka & edited by Alexandra McCullough-Garcia, with the production by Grace Lu, Pei Ann Yeap & Hiroko Mizuno. Priced $19.95 in the US & $11.95 in Canada, its 176 Black & White pages have chapters 68-73, all sammiched betwixt the color cover art!
Vol. 12 begins in late Summer with Akane being reprimanded by the Witch Council due to her time spell, so to atone for this she is sent on a mission to Tibet to secure ancient artifacts. Kenny, Inukai, Ai, Tomoe and Mingming accompany her, but to reach the vault they have to contend with the giant stone golem and Paotrick the sentient pot!
They also meet some of Akane’s old friends at a nearby village! Meanwhile back in Aomori, Mako makes a very special custom magickal robe for her friend Kazuno, with some unintended consquences as the
Kuramoto family worries about an approaching storm. When Akane’s group returns from Tibet, her next difficult task is learning how to use a new smart phone!
She uploads cute photos of Chito and Kenney to the internet, but soon learns of the Gremlins who ensure that no magickal secrets are posted. Their mystical associate the Harbinger of Autumn and their wolf TenTen visit and invite the gang to the Sukayu Rotemburo, for a delightful stress-free time in the huge mixed-gender onsen, as preparations begin for the Fall!
Chapter 73 has more [tastetful] nudity than all previous chapters combined! As usual, the character & scenic art is gorgeous, the plots are quite amusing & captivating, and the pace is pleasantly leaisurely, so I will give it the grade of an “A” as in Akane! Now we will introduce Mike’s latest four pics! “Zara Redux”is Mike’s pairing of his older and revised Photoshop and Mouse pics of Zara, who was a singer, spy and underground fighter with telekinetic powerrs and the snarky, bubbly, charming purrsonality in the Star Wars fan fic by our artist / cosplayer friend Tonomurabix! The original 2005 version is on the left and the revised / nekomimi 2024 version is on the left!
“Ao Pen No Nekomusume” is Japanese for “The Blue Ballpoint Pen Catgirl”, which in this casde is Mike’s pic of our friend Mara-shi’noh who is a Hot Salsa and Kizomba dance teacher, a wife. mom, and grrrandmom, depicted here lounging upon the pillows in her bandeau bikini!, mew la la! Her daughter Peppurr-Minta is running for the mayoral re-election this year!
Mike used the Derwent pencil, Sakura Micron pens, Faber Castell colored pencils & Copic meowrkers for the next two sketches which were commeowssioned at WhatTheHell?! Con. “Sam” is the sketch of – and for- Sam Moore, who was one of the artists at the con! “Venti” is fan art of the character from the Genshin Impact video game, which was done for the yachting Club’s Commeowdore Jordan! So, what di y’akll think of the art?
