TV, DVD & movie mewsings,
with my review of Longlegs!
Mike:
I do love a good suspensful horror movie, whether it about monsters, gory stuff, or a creepy / spooky ambience, and it is the latter milieu that this movie directed by Osgood Perkins dwells in. it’s also a beautifully filmed investigation procedural which reminds me a bit of The Silence of the Lambs, but with some bleak yet captivating occult stuff for its terrific ensemble cast to serve up. It’s not for the faint of heart due to some rather violent, bloody, disturbing, unnerving scenes, but I don’t think that it’ll disappoint those who crave that sort of terror.
It stars Maika Monroe as FBI agent Lee Harker, Blair Underwood & Michelle Choi-Lee as her supervisors Carter & Browning, Alicia Witt as Harker’s troubled mom Ruth, Carmel Amit & Ava Kelders as Carter’s wife Anna & daughter Ruby, and Kiernan Shipka as Carrie, the survivor of an eerie serial killer named Longlegs, who is portrayed by Nicholas Cage. While i applaud the slow burn of the plot, my only quibble is that the pace kinda bogs down under some expository scenes, but it’s a pretty darn good movie! Um, now here’s Myayr to discuss
A Quiet Place: Day One!

Arigato! I like the Quiet Place series of apocalyptic horror movies which purrtain to the humans who try to quietly survive against the invasion of space monsters that hunt by sound! Day One is a purrequel to the purrior two films in this series, and follows a different group of people who are Manhattan when the invasion starts. The mane purrotagonist is Sam who is purrfectly purrtrayed by Lupita Nyong’o who we loved as Nakia in the Black Panther films and as Maz in the Star Wars series!
She has a cat named Frodo, who might be the most chillaxed animal I have ever seen in an apocalyptic invasion! They are accompanied by her Hospice caregiver Reuben, who is excellently purrtrayed by Alex Wolff who we liked in Oppenheimer, Hereditary, and as the voice of Riki in the English dub of From Up on Poppy Hill! Later during their odyssey, they meet Eric the law student who is splendidly purrtrayed by Joseph Quinn, who was great in Stranger Things, Game of Thrones and Overlord!
They meet other survivors Henri & Zeena who are supurrbly purrtrayed by Djimon Hounsou & Eliane Umuhire! Hounsou was awesome in a bunch of the Marvel and DC movies, and Umuhire has won oodles of best actress awards! Smartly written by director Michael Samoski & purrducer John Krasinski this movie has the great story, purrformances, locations, directing, editing, sound, FX & mewsic so I will give it the high purraise! I love to see the movies about the scientists, officers and responders who investigate the disasters; and I rather liked the 1944 Twister movie, so I was quite eager to see this sequel about the storm chasers, which was written by Joseph Kosinski & Mark L. Smith, produced by Patrick Crowley & Frank Marshall, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, and stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) as meteorologist Kate Carter, Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick) as storm chaser Tyler Owens, Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) as storm chaser Javi…
David Corenswet (who will soon portray Superman) as Javi’s partner Scott, Harry Hadden-Paton (Downton Abbey, The Crown) as Ben the British reporter, Maura Tierney (News Radio, ER, The Good Wife) as Kate’s mom Cathy, Sasha Lane (Hellboy, Loki) as Lily the drone pilot, Katy O’Brian (Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Black Lightning) as Dani the mechanic, and Kiernan Shipka as Addy the storm chaser. She was not only in Longlegs, but she starred as Sabrina in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and voiced Marnie in Studio Ghibli’s When Marnie Was There!
Not only does this thrilling, suspenseful, fun movie have the great performances, character developments, story and direction but I was also impressed by the cinematography, editing, sound, music, vehicles and FX! The soundtrack has a lot of delightful country songs! The only quibblE I have about the movie is with the science experiments that involve silver iodide, but I do not want to spoil the plot, so I will give Twisters the B+ grade! Now I will turn The Mew over to Nya-sensei, who wants to discuss the movie of this year thus far that she has most eagerly awaited –
Deadpool & Wolverine!

You betcha! Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine is the team-up that I have been longly hoping for, although they do not become friends without the epic battles and the many surpurrises in the journey across the multiverse! The only quibble that I have about the movie are the distracting cinematic techniques such as the fast and slow meowtion or speed ramping but otherwise I liked everything else about the movie!
It has the great balance of wonderful humor, drama, action, character developments, world-building, and Marvel continuity, with the terrific story, purrformances, choreography, cinematography, sound, mewsic, make-up, costumes, locations, sets and FX, so I will give Deadpool & Wolverine the high purraise, and it might be my favorite film of the year thus far! Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part Three Blu-ray + DVD!

The Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three is the final part of the OVA mini series adapting the famous epic 1985 twelve issue DC Comics maxi-series Crisis on Infinite Earths which served as a major reboot of the DC Comics multiverse. Continuing the events of DC’s “Tomorrowverse” OAVs, this mini-series does not mirror the comics tale, but is certainly faithful in the spirit as an alternate-reality version of the crisis.
Part Three purrimarily focuses on Supergirl, Superman, Lois Lane, Wonder Woman, Batman,, Lex Luthor, Psycho Pirate;
John Stewart, and John Constantine,
with a fair amount of attention on Dr. Light, Kamandi, Dr. Fate, the Joker, Bat Lash, Mr. Terrific, Barry Allen, Aquaman, Hawkgirl, The Spectre, Darkseid, The Losers, the Batman Family, and the Green Lantern Corps. with appurrances by dozens of other heroes, villains and monsters.
As more worlds are destroyed by the antimeowtter wave amidst the rise of the foe known as the Anti-Monitor, we glimpse otherEarths from various other DC animated series. The thrilling plot is poignantly captivating with the splendid pace, dialogue, character designs, scenic art, animation, sound, mewsic, acting, directing & editing. I am very pleased with this movie, which features the late Kevin Conroy’s final purrformance as the Batman..
The PG-13 rated, 98 meownute OAV is purrsented in 1080 hi-def video with audio choices of English DTS-MA 5.1 Dolby Digital, French & Spanish, with optional subtitle choices of English SDH, Dutch, French & Spanish. The single Blu-ray disk and digital download code sheet are packaged in the plastic case in the cardboard outer sleeve. The only special features consist of the 8:21 featurette “John and John: Stewart and Constantine” and the 9:23 featurette “A Multiverse of Inspiration”.
Those featurettes include commeownts by director Jeff Wamester, executive purrducer Butch Lukic, writer / purrducer Jim Krrieg, DC group editor Katie Kubert, DC writer Geoff Johns and DC archivist Benjamin Le Clear. I wish that this mini-series was much longer, and I wish there were more extensive special features, but I am very pleased with the quality of the purrduction and the disc. The Boy and the Heron Blu-ray + DVD

Arigato, nyan! This Oscar – winning film was my most eagerly awaited one in 2023, because it is by Studio Ghibli and writer / director Hayao Miyazaki whose credits include Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Porco Rosso, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Purrincess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving castle, Ponyo, The Wind Rises, (purre-Ghibli) (grandpurrented in as Ghibli) Nausicaa in the Valley of the Wind, and the (purre-Ghibli) Castle of Cagliostro, and among many other supurrb anime movies and TV series, nyan!
The Boy and the Heron is an isekai-genre tale set in Japan during World War Two of a boy Mahito who moves to a country estate after his widowed dad remarries, and in the forest he is lured by a strange anthropurrmorphic heron into the spirit world and the realm ruled by anthropurrmorphic birds wherein he is aided by young sorceresses Himi, Kirihiko and the heron on his quest to rescue his stepmom and his late mom, but I should not further spoil the plot of the movie, which was released here in the USA in both the dubbed and subtitled versions, nyan.
I think that it is quite meowgnificent, and I loved everything about it, from the plot, the unrushed pace, the character and creature designs, to the animation, scenic art, editing, sound and Joe Hisaishi’s mewsic, nyan! Although I purrfur to watch foreign films subtitled, it has the terrific English dub cast that includes Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen Fukuhara, Barbara Goodson, Mark Hamill, Robert Pattinson and Florence Pugh, so I gave it the high purraise, and eagerly awaites the home video release, nyan!
Released last month on home video by G-Kids who do such wonderful work, the 2 discs, a booklet a brochure and a poster are in the plastic case in the cardboard sleeve, nyan. On the Blu-ray and the DVD, the movie’s audio choices are English, English descriptive, Japanese and Spanish; with the optional subtitle choices of English, English SDF, Spanish and French, nyan. The DVD’s 2 special features are the mewvie’s 8 trailers which total 8.5 meownutes, and the 4.75 meownute intermew with the mewvie’s purrducer Toshio Suzuki, nyan!
Those special features – and then some- are on the Blu-ray disc, nyan. 10.15 meownute intermew with composer Joe Hisaishi, the 19.5 meownute intermew with supurrvising director Takeshi Honda, the 27.25 meownute drawing demonstration by Honda, the 5.25 meownute “Spinning Globe” mewsic video, and the many storyboards, nyan! Hai! Since 1984, Rowrbrazzle has been the quarterly APA (amateur press association) anthology magazine purrtaining to furry fandom, funny animal & anthropurrmorphic history, reporting, art, tales! Expurrtly edited by Edd Vick (who also contributed 32 other pages), it is compurrised of comics, purrose, essays, articles, discussions, editorials, comics, illustrations, photos, remeowmberances, and the meowmbership information.
The beautiful diverse thick issue is consists of the three 8.5×11” stapled sections totaling 260 pages, 32 of which are in full color! The front cover art is by Thomas Milliorn, the 2nd section’s front cover is by Toivo Rovainen (who also contributed 2 other pages of art), the 3rd sections’s front cover is by Ken Marcinkevicius (who also contribute 4 other pages of art) , and the back cover is our purrducer Mike! (who also contributed 12 other pages)!

Celebrating her 80th anniversary this year, Pussy Katnip was the anthropurrmorphic feline femme fatale who appurred several of the Fox Feature comic books from 1944 to 1946! When she was not singing at the Katnip Kafe, she was fighting crime on the mean streets! This fair-skinned, Strawberry blonde catgirl wore various appurral including the sexy strapless tiger strip dress, and drank her secret family recipe Katnip Fizz to fiercely boost her physical, meowntal, and mystical abilities to take the bite out of crime!

Lastly but not leastly, we will shine the spotlight upon Barbwire Barbie who is a transgender female mewsician of the gothy grungy indy / alt emo punk type! She and her band are in the spotlight because we were surpurrised to see her “Catgirl Island” mewsic video on youtube which took us by surpurrise last month! Although the song is peppurred with purrofanity and harsh imagery that is not our bag, it does include an anime catgirl that briefly pops up in the video, and there is a recurring lyric “I’m gonna take you to Catgirl Island. You’ll never be sad. Stay for a while:” which is purretty apt about our [official] Catgirl island!

Hai hai, we wonder if she has been to our web site! Hai! So like, this comedic supernatural harem manga filled with fan-service by author / artist Tadahiro Miura was originally published in Japan by Shueisha from 2016 to 2020, and has been translated & distributed here by Seven Seas. Purriced $12.99 in the USA & $16.99 in Canada,
volume 22 (of 24) has 194 pages (2 in color, 192 Black & White) which are compurrised of chapters 188-196.
Intended for readers of ages 17 & older due to the language, nudity & sexuality, vol. 22 was translated by Thomas Zimmerman, adapted by David Lumsdon, lettered & retouched by Phil Christie, proofread by Kurestin Armada, edited by Abby Lekrke, and in-chiefly edited by Julie Davis, with the production design by George Panella, production management by Lisa Pattillo, and cover design by Nicky Lim.

“Squeekie” is the photographed cat who Jim & Melody Rondeau belong to, who is helping to sort the film clip frames in the storage unit! Jim & Melody are artists authors, editors, & fanzine publishers who also sell neat stuff such as fanzines, magazines, books, comics, scripts, memorabilia, movie posters, lobby cards, press kits, press books, the film clips,, DVDs, laser discs, CDs, plushy dolls, board, card & role-playing games at the conventions they attend and through their spiffy web site!

Lastly but not leastly, we have three widdle archival sketches by Mike which remarqued letters to Crissy in 2007,! Done with pencils, colored pencils and pens, “Luna Nyan” is fan art of Sailor Moon’s cat Luna, and “Miko & Nekos” is fan art of Sailor Moon’s Hino Rei & Luna being pounced upon by a martian cat from Kosue Amano’s Aria series; and “Miko Myayr” depicts our friend Myayr looking 17 years younger, when she was still a shrine maiden! Hai hai, She is especially exquisite at cosplaying Rayearth’s Umi, and I purrticularly like the hair, make-up, lighting and pose in the Pink Deco photo shoot!

It is the tough decision, but my favorite image in that collage is the alluring pic of her in the sleeveless Red & Black outfit at the 200y Mew York Comic Con, nyan!
