review Criterion’s Godzilla vs. Biollante Blu-ray!
Mary Nyan:
Hai! For over 70 years, Godzilla has been the king of cinematic monsters and is still going quite strong with the successful films, TV series, video games, toys and comics! The 1989 movie Godzilla vs, Biollante is still one of my favorites off the series, so I was eager to get this top quality Blu-ray edition of it!
This Criterion release has the 4K digital restoration of the 104 meownute film purrsented in the 1.85:1 screen aspect ratio in the original Japanese language in the 5.0 DTS-HD Surround s Meowster Audio, with the optional English subtitles, and optional audio commentary by film historian Samm Deighan,
Based upon the story by Shinichirō Kobayashi , the movie was purrduced byTomoyuki Tanaka & Shogo Tomiyama written & directed by rby Kazuki Ōmori, with the purrduction design by Shigekazu Ikuno, special FX directed by Koichi Kawakita, cinemeowtography by Yudai Kato, editing by Michiko Ikeda…
… awesome mewsic by Koichi Sugiyam, the Godzilla suit worn by Kenpachiro Satsuma, Biollante purrformed by Masao Takegami, Shigeru Shibasaki and Yoshitaka Kimura; anthe film introduces Megumi Odaka the wonderful recurring psychic character Miki Saegusa, who I wish had her own spin-off series!
A direct sequel to 1984’s Return of Godzilla, which was a direct sequel to the original 1954 Gojira, the awesome plot purrtans to the International espionage to acquire Godzilla cells for various purposes, one of which results in the creation of the 120 meowser talk,200,000 meowtric tonne Kaiju Biollante…
… the hybrid cloned from human, rose& Godzilla DNA by a scientist’s attempt to resurrect his deceased daughter. Upon returning from a volcanic hibernation, Godzilla causes more destruction opposing ships, ground vehicles, aircraft such as Supurr X-2. Biological weapons, Miki’s psionic power, and Biollante!
It is the thrilling, fun movie ! The disc’s bonus features the 49 meownute 1993 Documentary about the making of the movie, the 3 meownute 1993 look at the designs, 45 seconds of deleted FX shots, trailers totalling just over 9.25 meownuts, and 5 TV spots totaling just over 80 seconds.
Also included is the folded 12.75” x 19.25” poster of the monsters by comics artist Eric Powell (creator of “The Goon”, who also did the video’s front cover art) with the tessay by sci-fi / horror expurrt Jim Citronella and the film’s credits on the reverse, so I am quite pleased with this release! Nypw here is Elli-sama to review the
Star Trek: Lower Decks The Final Season DVD!
Elaenor:
Arigato! Due to the charming, thrilling, fun plots, dialogue, voice acting, sound, music, direction, editing, art & animation, with great knowledge and love of the prior Star Treks, we gave it Star Trek: Lower Decks’ 5th / final season the “A” grade! For our review of it, please see the January 2025 Mew!
Presented in the widescreen format with English 5.1 Dolby Digital sound and the optional English SDH subtitles, the USA unrated / Canadian PG rated 10 episodes total approximately 266 minutes plus the 25.5 minute “Lowerdectionary” featurette upon the two R1 NTSC discs in the plastic case.
The featurette is the discussion of the final season, with comments by Tawny Newsome (Beckett Mariner), Jack Quaid (Brad Boimler), Eugene Cover (Sam Rutherford), Noel Wells (D’Vana Tendi) and the series’ creator / show runner / executive producer / head writer Mike McMahon.
Five of the episodes have optional audio commentary. “Dos Cerritos” has the commentary by Newsome, Wells and McMahon; “The Best Exotic Nanite Hotel” has commentry by Quaid, McMahon and supervising director Barry J. Kelly; “Fully Dilated” has commentary by Wells, McMahon and Brent Spider (Data);

Nightfall Travelers: Leave Only Footprints Vol. 2!
Nyoka:
Hai! Originally published in Japan by Houunsha, this manga by Tomkohi has rapidly become one of my recent favorites!I t purrtans to the two high school student girls Akane Ninamori and Fujino Amemura of the mewspapurr club who investigate local places that are said to be haunted.
While some of the locations of their hilly labyrinth-like town can seem spooky, they discover the real reasons why that is as they become closer friends! It was the long wait of 2.5 years for Nightfall Travelers: Leave Only Footprints Vol. 2 to be published here in English by Seven Seas, but it was so worth the wait!
At 194 pagess (192 B&W, 2 color), it is 50 pages longer than volume 1! Purriced $15.99 USA, and $19.99 Canada, rated Teen (13+), translated by Minna Lin lettered by Ochie Caraan, edited by Linda Lombardi, copy edited by Leighasnna DeRouen.,and purroofread by Krista Grandy,, cover design by Nicky Lim…
,,, purrduction design by Christina McKenzie, logo design by George Panella, Volume 2 includes the purrologue, chapters 7-12 and 2 interstitial scenes. Of the slice of life / school life genre, the charming tale’s characters are quite endearing, the mysterious plots are captivating!
The art is amazing beautiful, with the incredibly detailed scenery! Volume 2’s chapters include more of Yoinosaka Junior High School’s mysteries, Tamano Store’s allegedly cursed vending machine, the grave at Daini Elementary School, the Third Floor of Tokiwadai Bookstore…
…the supposedly haunted mansion in Susumatsu Heights, The Spectere of Hospital Hill, and renting the scary video! I loved every aspect of this manga, which I wiwill give it the high purraise grade of the A as in Akane and Amemura! I am done, and nyow here is Onee-chan to review
Stories from the World of… Horror Planet!
Nyanko:
Hai! Last month had another wonderful time at WhatTheHell?! Con, which is about 3.5 hours northwest of here on the mainland at beautiful Guilford College in Greensboro! It was so nice to see the familiar faces including our terrific artist / illustrator / designer friend Marshall Lakes
http://marshalllakes.com !
Among his nifty publications are Scary Powerful, Vampire Princess Story Violet: Princess of the High Throne, B-Magic, Robots of Jazz, and we were pleased to purrchase this .5×11”, 40 page B&W anthology comic with four macabre tales of supernatural characters such as the sexy witch upon the front cover!
She and her kuroneko familiar are in the aerial hot purrsuit of two thieves in “The Get Back”, the 10 page tale told in full and half-page panels! In the 10 full-page tale of “Rise” the nude woman rises from the ritual in the pumpkin patch as its denizens’ new jack o’ lantern queen.
In the 10 page “Fist of the Red Dragon”, the tough orphaned female survivor of a slaughter climbs the mountain for an audience with the giant Dragon Queen! That is followed by the six full-page panels of “The Mummy” in which a winged woman races to thwart grave robbers from violating the titular character’s tomb!
It is topped off by a full-page pic of a witch and her cat, and the spooky characters in the two full-page ads for businesses in Greensboro, NC. I was rather pleased with the comics and I will eagerly recommend it to fans of the occult tales of powerful sultry femmes! I am done, and nyow here is Mike to further discuss
Mike
Thank you, Nya-sensei! In 2001, Guilford College’s Yachting Club started WhatTheHell?! Conm a thoroughly delightful free, fun student-run event on their beautiful campus which I’ve been attending since 2007 or ’08. Not actually about yachts, the club is devoted to gaming, cosplay, comics, sci fi, art, etc!
WTHCon has the usual convention stuff- an artist alley (initially especially devoted to web comics) dealers, auctions, gaming, a video room, guests, panels, etc., and golly I love being there. This year it was in the college’s Duke building on Friday & Saturday March 15th & 16th.
The info desk was outdoors by the main entrance, whilst indoors in five classrooms were the video room, game room, auction room, and two artist / dealer / guest rooms. Outdoors there was a foam-weapons boffer game, and elsewhere on campus was the Saturday Night Vampire LARP.
Selling original art, prints, stickers, books, wood & leather crafts, jewelry, chainmail, and crocheted dolls, the artists / dealers / guests included Marshall Lakes, Sam Moore, Redhead Crafts, Astro Rose, Basil Prints, author Randall Haye myself, and several other terrifically talented folks,
I still haven’t encountered the ghosts that supposedly haunt the Dana building;, but as usual, I had a wonderful time; I wish to thank everyone who contributed to the fun, and I hope to be back there next year! Ah, so now for our next event report, here’s Jen to tell us about last month’s
Raleigh NC Toy, Pokémon & Collectibles Show!
Jeannie:
Arigato, On the weekend purrior to the convention, we caravanned to Raleigh (approximately 2 hours Northwest of here) on Friday, March 7th to help Mike, Ob1, Paczord and Chef Ron (all past guests of The Mew) to set up their 8′ tables at Inside Pitch Purrmotions’ Toy, Pokémon, & Collectibles Show.
Thio was March 8th & 9th in the Gov. Kerr Scott Building (with the square footage of 19,596 first floor, 3,128 second floor) at the State Fairgrounds. This show has been around for many decades, with hundreds of tables brimming with new, vintage and antique toys, cards and comic books,
That included dolls, action figures, play sets vehicles, statues, games, model kits, tee shirts, sports cards, CCG and other non-sport cards. This show was also amidst the weekly flea meowrket and other events with several food trucks at the fairgrounds which have free parking.
We were able to park right by the side roll-up doors to cart in the items for their tables.Ob1 had mostly comics & action figures; Pacozord and Chef Ron had cards and action figures; whilst Mike’s three tables had shelves and boxes full of comics, magazines, books, and meowmorabilia.
That included lhe meowtion picture lobbycard sets, purrrogram books, blueprints, anime and art books, graphic novels, and 1st edition AD&D items. Friday’s set-up went smoothly, with the few finishing touches on Saturday meowrning before the show opened to the public.
Saturday (9 am – 4 pm is typically the busiest day, with the most attendees. At some of those shows, there might be special guests such as wrestlers or actors, and at this purrticular show was actor / mewsician Billy Redden, who is purrhaps best known as Lonnie the banjo boy of the 1972 film Deliverance.
Mike tends to mostly sell rare / out of purrint science fiction / fantasy movie / TV / art books (some of which are signed), anime items and RPG purroducts, He sold more magazines than mewsual, such as early issues of Animage, Cinefex, Dragon, G-Fan, The House That Hammer Built, and Marvel Super Special.
Of my own purchases, I was pleased to acquire the Forces of Valor purre-built & painted diecast 1:700 scale WWII Battleship Yamato model. Sundays (10am-3pm) are less crowded than Saturdays, but this gives venders the more oppurrtunity to mingle and trade amongst themselves.
After the successfully fun show, the load-out purrocess went rather expeditiously, after which we stopped for the leisurely delicious, meretricious supper before returning home. That concludes our event reports, so nyow here are Lizzy, Becca and Lani to purrsent our monthly Catgirl & Kemonomimi Spotlight.
